First Monday
Traditional 8 Ball
Third Monday
"Less Serious" 8 Ball
-
If you make a ball on the break (example solid) you have to continue shooting at solids. If you do not follow up your break with a solid, the table is open to your opponent. If the breaker makes one or more of each, the table is open to the shooter.
-
Call all shots including combinations and rails (excluding short rails). Players must hit their own ball first for called combinations.
-
The 8 ball CANNOT be played off of another ball or any other ball be played off of it. The 8 ball must go in "clean" to win the game.
-
If any ball is touching the head string it is considered in the kitchen.
-
Jump shots of any kind are prohibited to prevent damage to the tables.
-
8 ball on the break is a win unless the cue ball also scratches. Cue ball pocketed on the break is considered a scratch and loss of turn. Cue ball scratch during regular play is a foul, opponent will play from behind the head string (in the kitchen). 8 ball pocketed (last shot) is a win unless there is a foul (touched any other ball, cue ball is pocketed, or the shot not played as called).
-
The Hawaiian Classic is a fundraising event. No player is paid any portion of the earnings — 100% goes to charity. Please be respectful to all players participating.
-
Don't be a jerk.
Some Fun 8 Ball Game Ideas:
-
Chalk On 8 Ball - after the break, the 8 ball is lifted from its position and placed on a new chalk cube (divot up). If a player knocks the 8 ball off of the chalk cube at any time during the game, their opponent wins the game. When it is time to shoot the 8 ball it must be shot off of the chalk cube, and the shot must be called.. If the player does not pocket the 8 ball ,it is lifted from its current position and placed on the chalk, and play resumes until the 8 ball is pocketed. If the 8 ball is knocked off of the table it is a loss.
-
Same as above except an unbalanced cue ball is used for the entire game. (this has proven to be popular with the spectators!)
-
Chess timer 8 Ball- we use a timer set for 7 min per side to finish the game.
-
Black cue ball and White 8 Ball - any time a player uses the white 8 ball as the cue ball, fouls, or shoots the black cue ball in as the 8, loses the match.
-
Bar stool 8 Ball - players must be sitting on a bar stool when shooting, feet cannot touch the floor. They must move the stool around the table with them.
-
Money Game 8 Ball - (referee required) The first Monday Tournament of December, all accrued money for the year and any money raised that night are placed (stacked, folded) on the table (see pictures) and the game is played. No one except the referee is allowed to touch the money. Donations can be added to the table strategically throughout the game, but not during actual shooting. We make our final charity donation the next day so it will arrive before Christmas. The next event is held the first Monday in January.
